Overview

The Senior Corporate Tax Accountant will focus on preparing consolidated corporate and state tax returns, assisting with ASC 740 tax provision calculations, researching and identifying any tax issues, and providing support to tax-related audits.  This role will have a general understanding of the requirements of federal, state, and local tax income requirements and will work with teams cross-functionally for tax compliance. 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare timely and accurate consolidated federal and state corporate income tax returns/pro forma returns. Troubleshoot any software issues that occur during preparation of returns by working with vendors.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on tax matters related to company initiatives to ensure proper compliance.
  • Accurate preparation and reporting of corporate income tax provision and ASC 740 matters on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Support the year-end tax provision and be a point of contact to financial auditors for inquiries.
  • Correspond with cross-functional teams on tax compliance and forecasting. Research and respond to tax questions that arise.
  • Formulate and file all quarterly estimates and annual tax return extensions.
  • Respond to ongoing tax audit issues with state tax authorities and manage any correspondence regarding tax returns filed. Lead negotiated settlements with state and local taxing authorities.
  • Document and monitor internal tax controls.
  • Prepare quarterly international tax estimates and manage Canadian compliance process with third party preparer.
  • Review and make updates to procedures by developing and streamlining procedures and workpapers for the tax return and provision calculations.
  • Keep up to date on tax law changes, court decisions, tax regulations, and company-initiated developments.

Qualifications

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field with 3-5 years of federal and state compliance experience required, Masters in Tax and “Big 4” experience preferred.

 

Specific Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated workpaper documentation
  • Strong verbal and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of the relevant tax issues for consolidated corporate returns, tax research skills, and knowledge of income tax accounting policies
  • Exposure to the area of tax financial reporting including ASC 740 and FIN 48
  • General knowledge of accounting principles
  • Excellent time management, decision making, and organization skills; must be able to effectively multi-task and meet deadlines

 

Computer Skills: Intermediate Excel, Word, PowerPoint, experience with accounting & tax preparation systems software, ERP system (Enterprise resource planning), OneSource Income Tax, and CCH Intelliconnect preferred.

 

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to operate a computer.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
